The GDLN Asia Pacific Business Meeting was generously and expertly hosted by the Vietnam Development and Information Center from December 1-5, 2008 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

GDLN Asia Pacific Business Meetings focus on assessing the income-generating level of activities in order to sustain member DLCs through large, regional initiatives. The meeting provided an opportunity for members to measure progress of current regional programs and propose new programs.

The World Bank’s East Asia and Pacific Region Vice President, Mr. Jim Adams, made a short visit to the meeting in support of the work of the GDLN in the region.

Attendees also had the unique opportunity to take part in two valuable training workshops:

In attendance were representatives from 15 GDLN Asia Pacific DLCs including representatives from the China Development Bank Network, the China Western Development Distance Learning Network and the Indonesia Higher Education Network (INHERENT).

Key points of the meeting:

  • Business Planning: The business planning discussion generated 13 proposed new regional programs. The GDLN Asia Pacific Governing Committee is considering online based tools to share information and follow up on the development and implementation of current and new regional programs.
  • GDLN Asia Pacific Governing Committee member rotation: The GDLN Asia Pacific sincerely thanked Madam Xuezhen Sun, from the China Western Development Distance Learning Network, for her kind service and contribution, and welcomed Pak Nizam, from the Indonesia Higher Education Network, as its new Governing Committee member.
  • GDLN Asia Pacific Headquarters: Chulalongkorn University’s President, Professor Pirom Kamolratanakul, M.D., kindly approved the GDLN Asia Pacific headquarters to continue to be hosted by the Center of Academic Resources until December 2011, with the possibility of extending this timeframe based on a mutual assessment and review of the partnership. The GDLN Asia Pacific wishes to thank the President of the Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Pimrumpai Premsmit, Director of the Center of Academic Resources, Chulalongkorn University, for their leadership and continued support of our network.
