story from Tokyo Development Learning Center

Da Nang City, Vietnam - In support of Vietnam’s Sustainable City Development Project (SCDP) a technical exchange mission was conducted with the Ministry of Construction, the Urban Development Agency of Vietnam, the Da Nang People’s Committee, and relevant departments (DOC, DOT, DPI, etc.). TDLC mobilized technical experts from the City of Yokohama and the Japan Institute of Country-ology and Engineering (JICE), to join urban and transport specialists from the World Bank. The mission team provided support in the areas of the development of an Urban Development Management Law, as well as on removing the barriers to realize transit-oriented development (TOD) in Da Nang City and to capture the increasing value of urban land for the benefit of the citizens. The experience of Yokohama, with a population of 3.5 million, in accommodating and managing growth during the rapid population growth period in the 1960s-70s, in part through guiding urban growth based on the realization of TOD was of specific relevance to Da Nang City. TDLC continues to coordinate with experts in JICE to respond to follow-up technical questions from MOC.
