“Improving Manufacturing Productivity” is part of a capacity-building seminar series developed by Tokyo Development Learning Center for domestic businesses, especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Organized jointly with GDLN Distance Learning Centers, the seminars are aimed to support SMEs in today’s competitive global environment, to thrive and serve their communities as the engine of economic growth.
Content will be provided by b>the Central Japan Industries Association (ChuSanRen).
The course consists of five modules, and is held over a five-week period. The Toyota Production System and 5S, and case studies of good practices from international and regional firms will be covered. Course delivery is by videoconference through the GDLN network.

Resources
All lectures are conducted by the Central Japan Industries Association (ChuSanRen), a nationwide management specialist association comprising 800 companies and organizations. Established in 1948 under the auspices of Japan’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), ChuSanRen was originally tasked to support the post-war reconstruction and development of industry in central Japan.
With a wealth of knowledge accumulated over sixty years, ChuSanRen now focuses its efforts on developing strategies to support business in today’s competitive world, providing information and knowledge services to its members through research, seminars, consultation, and other actvities.

The speaker and author is highly regarded for his expertise in Marketing, Manufacturing Management, Human Resource Development, Organizational Management and Communications. He has published numerous research papers and books in Japan as well as in Taiwan, China and Korea. His publications include “Learning the Toyota Production System through the English Language” and “5S and English Expression for Kaizen”.
Course Structure
The course is based on five major topics.
Each lecture session (1-21 below) has been designed with a combination of a subject lecture and specific items such as the case study approach, group discussions, Q&A, discussion based on participant cases, and participant presentation. Each session thus maintains flexibility, based on lecturer-participant interaction.
