Youth Entrepreneurship as Career Option in EAP - Key Components for Success
story from Chulalongkorn UniversityAn Inter-Regional Knowledge Sharing Series on the 2007 World Development Report
Thursday, November 13th, 2008 21:00 (EST)Organized by the World Bank and Chulalongkorn University-Global Development Learning Network (CU-GDLN), this knowledge-sharing seminar, a third in the series of regional youth seminars, is part of the Bank’s continuing effort to disseminate the messages of the World Development Report 2007 (WDR 07). The seminar features four presentations from youth and NGOs supporting youth entrepreneurs (China, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines). Through interactive discussions, participants have the opportunity to learn the key elements for success in terms of scalability and sustainability, and business initiatives that would be useful and transferrable in their own settings.
Entrepreneurship can be a promising career option for youth as they seek to make a smooth transition from school to work, especially when the economic growth of their home country fails to keep pace with the growing number of graduates entering the labor force, and where career opportunities are limited in the labor market. The Human Development Unit in the East Asia and the Pacific Region is thus hosting a video-conference/ seminar on the topic of youth entrepreneurship, bringing together youth entrepreneurs, private sector representatives, policy-makers, and donor agencies from seven countries in the region.
The main objectives of this seminar are:
- to identify the activities of youth entrepreneurs in the region and share lessons learned from both positive and negative experiences,
- identify market opportunities for youth entrepreneurs, and
- provide all stakeholders with an opportunity to seek possibilities for partnership and collaboration in the area of youth entrepreneurship.
